Successful Business People Case Studies

Allow me to show you a case study of this book influencing the career of a very wealthy person that you might know about.

Warren Buffett claims that this one book was the one book that influenced the way that he treated people and his career. In other words, it changed his life.

You see, Warren was once a very socially awkward young boy. He would shy away from interacting with people and would instead stick to his books and just keep reading all day long.

One day, when Warren was 15 years old, he picked up a copy of “How to Win Friends and Influence People” from his grandfather’s bookshelf.

Upon reading the book, young Warren experienced a massive transformation. He started to approach people more often and throughout his life, as a result of this book, he began to inspire faith into his colleagues. In fact, here is one testimonial of one of his workers praising his ability to do that and commentary from the man himself about how it changed his life:

Wasn’t that convincing or what?

Still not convinced? Click here for the Business Insider article itself for the full testimonial and here for another testimonial by Warren Buffett himself.

Could you imagine just how much transformation that one simple book did to one of the richest and most influential men on the planet? It caused all of that stuff!

Let me tell you another story. Have you ever seen Back to the Future Part II?

If you have, remember the scene where old Biff gives young Biff the Sports Almanac?

Young Biff couldn’t believe what he had seen.

Until when he started listening to the results, and ultimately using it to bet on the horses and sports games when Marty McFly didn’t interfere, and then he was convinced “Oh boy, I’m really onto something here.”

And then he becomes the richest man in Hill Valley in that alternate reality when Marty doesn’t change it.

Here’s the scene right here if you’d like to see for yourself:

Well, How to Win Friends and Influence People is just that book. It is the real life Grey’s Sports Almanac that’ll give you the answers to dealing with any person at any time.

Of course, the rules are a little different now than what they were in 1936 when the book was published in that you need to be tough and you need to be even tougher to deal with people, but oh boy do these principles last and mold itself into any situation. In fact, I’ll later tell you how I used this book to get out of a fight after a car crash!

And this book didn’t just help Warren Buffett; it helped numerous business leaders as well succeed in their profession.

According to HubSpot, where you can read their article on the subject here, successful leaders have one thing and one thing in common. And that is:

They all read “How to Win Friends and Influence People.”

That pretty much says it all.

If all of the successful leaders in politics and in business read that one book and that one book contributed to their success, then to obtain success in any line of work in which you are dealing with people, then all signs point to coming to that book.

Are you starting to see some trends here?

I hope that you do.

All of the stories in that HubSpot link will reveal a lot of interesting stories that will amaze you and show you how powerful and impactful this book is. Go ahead, click on that link and give it a read. In fact, read that before you read the rest of this blog post. It’ll be worth your while or I’ll send you a $100 Amazon Gift Card to your mailbox. Just send me an email with your address at evan@jointheisland.com and I’ll send it to you.

Are you back?

Good.

Time for a grand ol’ story!

Me, a Silver Car, and a Red Car

How to Win Friends and Influence People Book Review: This Will Completely Change Your Life. Guaranteed.

So I was driving home one day after crushing a Differential Equations test at my university and I was blasting the radio so loud to Toto’s “Hold the Line.”

And I was so immersed with the music that I forgot to leave a lot of space on the road between me and the car in front of me even though I was going the speed limit.

So then the light turns red and the car in front of me literally stops so abruptly that I was surprised to see that he even stopped. So I immediately pushed hard on the brakes to stop my car from crashing him.

And wouldn’t you know it? I crashed the rear end of his car (Don’t worry, I didn’t get hurt; it was a simple fender bender, no big deal).

So I roll down my window to try to sort the situation out with the driver and then what he did next totally shocked me!

He said this:

“You were going way too f****** fast. You could’ve killed someone if they were in the back of your car seat.” And then basically whatever else the guy said, calling me a jerk, a fool, and, whatever else.

You might be saying “Evan, of course he’s right; you had the music too loud.”

I did and I learned my lesson there.

But the underlying story as to how I used the book here to prevent things from getting worse.

Normally, one might argue with the guy right when he is coming at me and criticizing me for hitting his car.

That would result in some legal trouble.

So I realized a few things that made the situation go my way.

1) I understood that he was criticizing me, so I knew that as long as I didn’t steal the show from him and just stood there, I would be OK.

2) I understood from reading the book that people love to feel superior and that I should let them do a great deal of the talking to give them this false sense of superiority.

So using these principles from the book, I instantly engineered a way to avoid getting into a fight and to just let him do his thing without affecting me in any way.

In other words, I fought him without fighting.

Guess what?

It worked.

He just took a picture of my face, my car, and he just left the scene, which by the way, if you’re ever in a car accident, it’s against the law to leave the scene of an accident that you are involved in. You MUST remain at the scene after an accident or you will go to jail if you get caught.

And here’s the best part.

The cop that I called comes to the scene after the accident and I explain what happened. I told him that the other driver was verbally abusive and that he left the scene and the officer said “You know, I believe your story. I’m not writing you a ticket today.”

And then what he says in the next part aught me by surprise:

“If you took his photo (which I didn’t know you could do), he would’ve been in jail tonight.”

So I would have put the guy in jail with the book’s mental magic if I just knew to take the photo of his car!

How unbelievable is that?!

That is the true power of this book right there! It gets you out of a fight plus, with the right knowledge, it puts the bad guy in jail, oh heck, sign me up, where’s the 2 hour line to get the book?!

And boom.

That’s the secret to using this book to your advantage.

Use it instead of just read it, which is the next topic of the next section and probably an objection that you might be asking to yourself “Why should I get a self-help book?”

The Hidden Reality of Self Help Books

How to Win Friends and Influence People Book Review: This Will Completely Change Your Life. Guaranteed.

To answer that objection there to self-help books, the real reason that most people don’t do well after reading them is because of one thing and one thing only, and yes, this is the hidden reality of any self-help book.

It goes something like this:

They fail to take action on what they read.

Read that last sentence one more time and let it sink in.

To dive a little deeper into this, people do two things with the self-help books:

1) They buy the book to have a sense of accomplishment

When they buy the book, they get emotionally excited that they have some sort of key to their answers, so their effort drops drastically.

2) When they read the pages of the self-help book, they get super motivated with the inspirational words that come out of the page. And when they do that, they get a false sense of achievement and their effort drops like flies.

And several weeks and months later, these same people are right where they left off.

Ground zero with nothing to show for it except a lot of lost time.

You can read more about this concept right here if you wish, and he really does an excellent job of explaining it.

However in reality, that’s how almost all of the people who read self-help books operate and those are the results that occur from their habits.

So the morale of this section’s story is this:

If you are going to get a book, make sure that you are going to use it and do what it says.

Don’t go around getting emotionally excited about the content on the page. Instead, stay focused, take action on what the book says, and reap the rewards. You’ll be glad that you did.

Now you might be asking, “Well, this book sounds impressive, but it only talks about business people and entrepreneurs. Would this book apply if I’m another professional like a doctor or a lawyer or an engineer?”

The answer to this question is yes and I’ll explain below.

Successful Non-Entrepreneurs Case Studies

How to Win Friends and Influence People Book Review: This Will Completely Change Your Life. Guaranteed.

You see, when you are engaging in any business (yes, if you didn’t know, the professions are a business), you are always dealing with people.

And that will never change regardless of what line of work that you are in.

In fact, ingrain this reality in your head right now if you haven’t.

You are not in the business that you think that you are in, you are in the people business and you always have and will be.

Just think about it. When you have to deal with a customer, they are people.

They have problems and it is your job to solve them in exchange for their money.

If you don’t figure out how to trigger their eager want (hint hint) in a way that’ll get them to buy your product, you will not close the sale and hence, you will not earn their money.

It is that simple.

And you have to do this in any line of work that you go into.

I’ll give you some examples of successful case studies to illustrate my point.

My uncle is a successful doctor. For the last 35 years since he’s been practicing medicine, he’s had to deal with many different patients from all walks of life and has had to deal with all of their problems from “I don’t want to take the medicine” or “I’m not following your prescription doctor; I’ll do whatever I want to do.”

He honestly says that every time, his real job isn’t being a doctor, but rather, a caregiver to the people.

He has to do what the patients say while at the same time, getting his treatment across to them.

And he has told me many times that the success that he has had with these patients was directly due to “How to Win Friends and Influence People” and executing everything that Dale Carnegie says in the book. He would not have been as successful as he has been without the book.

And THAT is a true testament.

Let’s look at another example here, in this case groups of engineers.

There was one study done by the Carnegie Institute, where you can find here, in which they studied how interpersonal skills specifically acquired from this book attributed to professional success. Well get this, 85 percent of professional success came from knowing how to deal with people and how to treat them. Much more than technical know how.

Now of course, being that this study was done by the author of the book you might say that this is biased to a degree.

However, when you combine this statistic on top of the fact that a lot of professionals value this book as the key to their professional success, you will start to realize the power of this book and what it can and will do for you if you follow what it says.

Speaking of which, I will address that right now in the next section.

What This Book Will Do For You

How to Win Friends and Influence People Book Review: This Will Completely Change Your Life. Guaranteed.

Simply put, this book will allow you to understand how people work and how to use them to get what you want.

It’s that simple.

In fact, I invite you to click on the article right here where one testimonial will be particular revealing and it is the reason why it is the number 1 recommended book in the article titled “20 Life-Changing Books You Must Add to Your List in 2017” on inc.com. Go ahead and check it out and come back to read the rest of what you’ll get from reading this book.

Are you back?

Good.

I bet the testimonial made you want to learn more.

Well, you will, so here it comes!

Here is another testimonial from the CEO of The Cord Cutting Company, where you can read here, who says that this book helped him “establish a company culture that supports individual creativity, growth, and equality.”

So if you are transitioning from college to the working world, you could easily use this book to avoid making costly mistakes in getting people to work with you and that could save your job in the long run.

Or you could use this book to possibly negotiate a higher salary later on or rise into the company management, and possibly make a 6 figure salary as a result.

Or say that you are in a relationship and you need to find a way to straighten it out with your other loved one. Well, for one, in this book, Carnegie talks about admitting your own mistakes and talking to the other person’s interests. You could use those pieces of knowledge to engineer a way to get them to like you again and to avoid thse problems in the future.

And you can definitely use the book to enter a new relationship when the slate is clean and prevent those previous mistakes that occurred in your prior relationships.

Hence, you will have your own redemption island!

So, if you are still not convinced as to why you should buy this book, here’s something for you to consider. This book costs $12.75 on Amazon, which is really a steal for the long term value that you are getting and that you have ownership for the rest of your life if you so choose. When you compare it to a $500 seminar to something similar that will only be for 3 hours and will most likely have zero effect on you, which one is the better buy?

Exactly my point.

And if you look on the reviews at Amazon, you will find numerous testimonials that only prise the book for changing their life and giving them a new perspective on things and that they are saying that it should be in the “professional toolbox” of anybody who is working.

Do you see any other self-help book producing that same effect on a massive level?

Very little.

So now I leave you with this:

Will I reveal all of the secrets of this book as it relates to solving your problem?

No.

I’m only here to show you that this book works and that it can be applied to your life to solve your problem.

You’re the one that’s going to have to figure it out yourself.

You’re the captain of your life, not me.

So decide wisely my friend.

To get started with the book, click here. It is available on Amazon. And please note, I am an affiliate for Amazon and I do receive a commission off of your purchase if you do buy the book through my affiliate link,  but the price that you pay will not change.

Having said that, if you apply it, it will work and change your life. Guaranteed or I will send a full refund and a $500 Amazon gift card addressed to your doorstep. If that is you, please write me an email at evan@jointheisland.com describing the issue.

  1. I’m very socially awkward. Which is why I do most of my work online. However, I’ve come to realise that the principles that you have outlined in the review still hold when dealing with people online too.

For example, it’s so easy to get sucked into an argument on a forum. But many of these situations can be avoided by the simple realisation that people say stuff just to get a reaction and feel superior.

    Thanks for the great review.

  2. Let me just start with this:
I wish more people would take the time to do what you do.
I’m talking about looking at books that could really change a person’s life.
As I’m sure “How to win friends and influence people” will do exactly that.
Definitely will be exploring this book. If it’s good enough for Warren Buffet, certainly it will be good enough for me.
Thank you for sharing this amazing article. Keep spreading the inspiration!

    1. I’m sure that the book will serve you extremely well Boby. It has for me. Thank you for your comment and please check out another amazing article right here. It will be worth your while to see it.
