How To Dominate Like LeBron James in Everything You Do Starting Today

How To Dominate Like LeBron James in Everything You Do Starting Today

Let me tell you a story about a basketball player you might have heard of what how one decision made him the most dominant player in the entire NBA.

It was 2012 and the Miami Heat just lost Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals at home to the Boston Celtics to trail 3-2 going to Boston.

The Heat were down and about. The pundits started celebrating the “foreseen” collapse of the Miami Big 3 (LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh).

The Boston crowd was ready to scream their heads off in support of their beloved Celtics and in absolute hatred of a man who they hated so much just because he was always a threat to their success and happened to be the most annoying man on the planet at the time (remember ‘The Decision?).

And even I as a beloved Miami Heat fan predicted the Heat would lose because they were going to Boston and nobody wins a Game 6 on the road, especially in that arena.

But then the man who made a decision made another decision that night only his teammates knew.

That night, LeBron James decided he was going to be the most dominant player on the court that night and just blow Boston and their fans out of the building.

And he did.

In absolutely remarkable fashion, LeBron James took the team on his back and he scored 45 points, had 15 rebounds and 5 assists on an amazingly astounding 73.7 percent shooting from the field.

You tell me, if you were the Celtics, do you think you’d beat LeBron James that night?

And would you be scared of him?

If you are most people, you better believe you would be.

The Heat eventually won this game and game 7 along with the Finals, but there is a big lesson to be learned here.

If LeBron James chose to sit on the sidelines and just let the crowd run the show, the Heat would’ve been toast and according to team president Pat Riley, it would’ve been the end of the Big 3.

But LeBron chose something different.

If he didn’t do this first point, the Heat would’ve lost the game and their future.

It’s the same point you must do in order to avoid blowouts, losing and mediocrity.

The first point is this:

Choose to Dominate

How To Dominate Like LeBron James in Everything You Do Starting Today

Becoming a dominant force in whatever you choose to do is 100% a choice you make.

Everything you do is a reflection of this thought.

If you don’t believe me, consider this (I’m not saying this is you, but it’s just an example to illustrate my point):

You come home every day from work from a boring and nonsense 9-5 job that’s getting you nowhere. You were stuck in traffic and the next thing you want to do is watch Netflix for the rest of the evening.

Why? Because you find Netflix the most gratifying thing to do and because that’s the case, you do it.

Now let’s take someone who loves becoming the greatest basketball player in the world.

In case you don’t know who he is, LeBron James is arguably the greatest basketball player to ever play the game of basketball.

His shear athletic dominance, his scoring ability, his basketball IQ AND his business and marketing genius has put him at the top of the NBA and the sports world.

Now why did he do all of this (and ditch my Miami Heat; he’ll never be forgiven for that!)?

Because he chose to dominate the game.

And why did he choose to dominate the game?

Because he had an internal need to make himself happy and because of his internal desire to make himself happy, he had to dominate to make himself happy, just as you feel obligated to watch Netflix to make yourself happy when you come home from work.

Do you get it?

So, let’s say you are at your job and you hear reports about a potential massive layoff coming at work and you know deep down in your gut that if you don’t perform perfectly, you will get fired?

Now you are in the position where you need to dominate or you will be a very unhappy person for a loooooong time.

Here’s the thing:

You need to dominate to ensure not just your happiness, but your security in life.

Nobody likes to buy something outrageously expensive that doesn’t produce.

Like most employees.

In order to ensure your place in the world, you have to dominate.

And although it’s technically a choice, whoever tells you not to dominate is scamming you and you don’t even know it.

Until now.

The best way to become dominant is to find both what is in demand in the marketplace and fulfilling it (so you can eat) and what you want to do in life and working towards it in whatever capacity possible, even if it’s working as a busboy to begin with.

I encourage you to read this post on how to redirect your sexual energy to achieve what you want like a Greek god would. This will take you through a series of steps to uncover the true desires in you and the foundation of what you MUST do to fulfill what the marketplace wants.

And now here’s another trait of champions that you must adopt in order to dominate whatever you are doing.

Develop Great Habits from Day 1

How To Dominate Like LeBron James in Everything You Do Starting Today

Habits are the foundation of everything you do.

Do you know why?

Because we are creatures of habit and when we get into the habit of doing things, we tend to repeat them.

Let’s say you have a habit of starting ten minutes late every time you have to start working on something.

What happens?

You repeatedly start 10 minutes late.

What does this mean?

As these ten minutes late incidences start occurring, they add up the amount of time you could’ve been using to work on what you are doing.

When you compare this to someone who has been disciplined about starting on time and actually does it, they are going to get ahead of you.

Why?

Because they have had more time to work, they are less stressed and they are more confident in their abilities as a result.

And hence, they beat you.

Do you want to be that guy who blows it all because you didn’t stick to your habits?

Exactly.

When you have habits, you can predict the results of what you are doing with almost perfect accuracy because you are a creature of habit.

When you develop great habits, you achieve great things.

When you develop terrible habits, you do terrible things.

Common sense, but common sense isn’t so common.

Things like showing up on time, starting on time, focusing on the main thing until everything is accomplished and complete, adopting the correct strategies to accomplish what you want to accomplish and listening when you are supposed to listen will propel you forward beyond what your competition is doing.

Because let’s be honest with ourselves here (in a good way, not a bad way), most of your competition will not be disciplined because they want the instant gratification to be happy now.

And that is reality.

If you stay disciplined, you’ll easily beat these people up and you will only have to compete with a handful of people or companies who are disciplined and do produce value.

And if you stick to the course of what you are doing, you will eventually beat these people to and become a champion.

If you don’t believe me, I can show you dozens of examples of championship teams, companies and individuals who built a culture and because of this culture, they have endured long-lasting success and dominance in what they do.

You can see some examples here and here if you wish to verify my point.

And now with great habits, you also need to learn how to do what you want to do to the very best you can do it and not a single detail less.

And here is how you do just that:

Learn From the Best And Nothing But The Best

How To Dominate Like LeBron James in Everything You Do Starting Today

Here’s the thing:

If you want to be the very best at what you do, you must follow what the very best have done to the tee.

Why is this?

Because their processes and systems are already proven and time-tested (for the most part) and they are the only ones on record who can guide you to becoming the best since they’ve done it.

Anyone else is not qualified to give you advice to become the best at what you are doing (unless a law says so otherwise or they’ve got some REALLY substantial data to back up their claims) since they haven’t achieved that status.

It’s that simple.

If you doubt my point, let me prove it to you right now.

If you wanted to become the best basketball player in the world and you had the choice to learn from one of the following options, would you choose to learn from your teacher who hasn’t played basketball before or would you choose to learn from LeBron James?

I figured.

You would never choose to learn from someone who hasn’t done it.

Now let me make this point. You must ALWAYS learn from those who fail to.

Why?

Because it shows you what you SHOULDN’T do in order to become great and dominant. As much as you need to know how to become great, you must know what will hold you back if you do the wrong things.

Preferably, you should take a look at who is not dominating and any similarities as to what they are and not doing. This will tell you what is blocking them from their success so you can avoid adopting those tactics and habits.

Now if the greats tell you what to avoid, just heed their advice. They know the way and they will typically be correct in what they are telling you.

Now let’s talk about something you must adopt today so you don’t slack off.

Be a Pirate

How To Dominate Like LeBron James in Everything You Do Starting Today

Have you ever seen a bunch of pirates walk into some random house?

No way (unless it’s Tom Brady; true story).

They ALWAYS barge into the house and take everything in it.

Why?

Because they do not hold back in taking what they want.

This is how they conquered all of the land they did. They did not walk into the house because it’s the polite thing to do. They BARGED in and robbed everything because it was the correct thing to do to accomplish their goal.

And this is what you need to do if you want to dominate.

You have to do whatever it takes to accomplish what you want to accomplish since eventually, someone will catch the tale and take what should’ve been yours all because you didn’t barge into the door first.

In this world, you really can’t hold back. People will try to take you down because they want you to feel comfortable enough so you don’t take away the main prize in dominating fashion.

They will tell you to “take it easy,” “chill” and “do you want a drink” so they get you distracted and make you feel like they are your friends and that they’ll take care of you.

In reality, unless it’s your mom, it’s the opposite agenda.

They want to see you fail and they will do anything to make that happen.

And you need to recognize that.

Once you do, here’s what you do to make sure no one takes away what is yours:

Assuming you understand the prior points in this post, you finish everything that needs to be done to achieve your goal and you do not stop until there is really nothing left to do.

If there are deadlines, you meet these deadlines.

You should ALWAYS do everything as soon as possible so you avoid giving up control to someone who will decide your fate.

If the game is not over, even if you are up by 50 points, you play like you are down by 50 points with 6 minutes left in the game and you need to make big runs to catch up.

In other words, play dominantly until the very end.

You should never slack off regardless of the position you are in.

Slacking off is what cost one team their chances for legendary greatness because they slacked off when it mattered the most.

Slacking off is what cost another team a Super Bowl.

You see the trend?

This is what you cannot do at any time regardless of where you are.

A 28-3 lead in the 3rd quarter? Most people would say it’s a wrap, right?

Rightfully so; assuming they don’t slack off.

And then when they slacked off?

Good bye.

62 wins in the regular season? Even in basketball. You should be going to the Finals with that number of wins!

Slacked off?

See ya!

Always be the pirate seizing the day all of time. Don’t stop working on your goal at all until every little detail is complete and every little assignment is turned in.

At that point, combined with everything we’ve discussed so far, you will become unstoppable.

Now here’s one thing you should always preach to yourself no matter what:

Don’t Take a Day Off

How To Dominate Like LeBron James in Everything You Do Starting Today

Days off are for those who don’t recognize the power of inertia.

Let me explain what this means in some detail.

Inertia is Newton’s 1st law of motion, which says that a body at rest tends to stay at rest unless acted by a greater force that sets it in motion.

This means if you are in control of yourself and you have the potential to move, Physics supports you!

Likewise, if you have control yourself to stay, you shall stay. Not good when you are trying to get from one position to another!

When you take a day off, you are secretly giving yourself position to stop.

This compounds itself over time to the point where it becomes a habit and it interrupts your progress in the world.

Now an exception to this would if you are sick. In this case, you can’t perform.

But if you aren’t sick, you should not take a day off, even if you are on vacation since you will lose time you could be working on what you are trying to achieve and this inertia thing will get to you. Besides, if you aren’t working, you aren’t going to be happy.

If you don’t believe me, read this article here which talks about what happens when you take a day off.

Yep, you really become lazy when you take days off.

You can’t move forward.

You can’t learn.

You can’t grow.

In short, it’s an MOFABP when you take a day off.

And if you are curious, MOFABP means “A Missed Opportunity For a Big Play.”

The big time players do not have MOFABPs

They have consistent victories day in and day out.

And when you take a day off, you break that momentum.

You see, momentum is your life source for domination. Give it up and you will lose everything fast.

Mark my words on that.

Keep moving, keep moving and keep moving and never stop.

Got it?

Now to become the master of your craft, this last one is the granddaddy of them all my friend. If do this more than anyone else, combined with what we discussed earlier, the universe has no choice but to acknowledge your dominance and that strategy is:

Practice, Practice, Practice

How To Dominate Like LeBron James in Everything You Do Starting Today

Practice makes perfect.

It’s an old cliché, but it’s true.

They say repetition is the mother of all learning.

There is no better expression to the truth than that.

When you practice, you allow yourself to write, shape and describe the material in your own words to the point where if you do it again, you become unstoppable in doing that thing.

It’s the same concept homework is built upon. When you repeat the problems over and over again, especially if you write down the material with effective note taking skills, you become unstoppable come exam time.

Same thing with the workout regime. If you consistently perform the workout regime that works, you will never have to worry about losing the game of fitness ever again.

Why?

Because extra practice has made you a master of your craft.

This is when you develop the confidence required to know that you can dominate.

You’ve done it, you know it, you’ve achieved it and you know the process of what you need to do.

And the only way to achieve this mastery is through practice, practice and more practice.

This is the long road to becoming dominant at what you do.

But if you do this, I guarantee you will become the Yoda at your craft.

The expert. The go-to guy. The man or the woman.

This is your road and your ticket to global domination if you seize the opportunity right now to take action on it.

Someone will take action on it. The question is, will it be you?
