The Art of War Book Review: The Most Unforgettable and Necessary Book Review EVER!

Come here, I am about to show you how close you are to making the wisest and most enjoyable investment in your life.

Have you always wanted to know how to use people to get what you want and desire?

Have you always wanted to understand the TIME-TESTED methods to successfully mastering the art of dealing with unpleasant people?

Do you want to know the quickest and fastest way to getting all of that in as simple as a 70-80 page read of a simple book?

Then I have the solution for you my friend.

Now, as a result of clicking on this link, you are looking for a review on “The Art of War.”

Well, this book is not just a book, but if used correctly, it’s a powerful weapon that you can use against your competitors without them even knowing that you have this weapon.

Hence, this book can make you permanently indestructible.

You want to be that don’t you?

Now, before diving into the review of “The Art of War,” I want you to engrain this quote into your head very well and REALLY realize the significance of it.

The quote is as follows: “Books are the treasured wealth of the world and the fit inheritance of generations and nations.”

THAT quote right there should make you think that books are the first place to go for any type of knowledge whatsoever. Because if it’s in a good book, you will find your answers.

And the “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu is no exception. It really is a treasured wealth in this world.

Now there are many reasons as to why you should buy “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu right after you read this blog post, but there is a very fundamental reason that is rightfully called for in being the main reason to do so.

And that reason is:

It’ll Teach You Strategy

The Art of War Book Review: The Most Unforgettable and Necessary Book Review EVER!

Have you ever wondered why sometimes you just think that you can’t seem to figure out how you are not getting your way?

You try this thing and you try that thing, but you still don’t get anything done?

Those are the questions of strategy, or in other words, what is the best way to get my way of things.

You’ve probably done this before, but I want you to think for just a second here on what it would be like if you actually achieved your goal.

Would you be proud of achieving it? Would you want to share it with your grandkids? Would it put you in your happy place (aka your own mental island)?

If you said yes to any one of those questions, you are probably thinking that you would want to know how to get to that place where you can do all of those things.

You are saying “How do I get there? What do I need to do in order to get there?”

Well, this book is like your golden ticket for finding those answers.

The Art of War has been the cornerstone book for all of today’s greatest strategists from war generals to business leaders and even to some of sports’ greatest coaches. They all used this book to HANDILY take down their competition and to establish themselves as the authority in their arena.

And if you read this ONE book, you could very well get to the same level as those guys.

To get to that place though, you need strategies and here’s one from the book that’ll get you to REALLY understand the power of this book.

Let’s dive right in!

How to Deal with Enemies

How you approach this principle will depend on where you are right now.

You could be in a position of strength or not in a position of strength.

If you are not in a position of strength, the morale of the story is this:

You cannot fight if your opponent has greater forces than you in a way that if you do fight, you will lose.

For example, let’s say that you are dealing with someone that you are buying a product from.

They initially quote you at “$600 for a 3 hour massage that includes every complementary service that we offer including XYZ service.”

You go in for the massage and you order the complementary service, but then, you get the bill and it says “$300.00” for the complementary services.

It does say in the contract that every complementary service is free of charge.

So then you are like “Wait a second, I thought that was free since it said ‘complimentary.'”

So then you are stuck and you say “Should I demand a refund or concede because the opportunity cost of taking them to court is too big and I don’t know my own strength on the legal end?”

Well, you could get a consumer protection attorney to sort this out, but then you don’t have enough savings to retain one so you have to take them to court alone.

And also, maybe there is some detail in that contract that is hidden in there that their attorneys are going to take advantage of you on if you do take them to court.

In a lot of ways, you don’t know the enemy’s capabilities and you don’t know your own power in the matter, so even though you are correct in that they did not explicit mention the fees for those services, you would need to give up the extra $300 since

A) You don’t have the power of attorney to fight them

B) You do not know what legal capabilities they have as a result of the contract and the events that transpired

So in short, because you do not have a military to fight their military in a courtroom over this and going to battle with them will provide you an potential additional cost of WAY more than the $300 along with the opportunity cost of missing out on something that could make you more money than you would if you were not to fight the battle, you a forced to pay the extra $300 even though they did not explicitly mention the fees anywhere in the contract and in their sales pitch.

So even though your case in 100% correct, you have to give up the fight.

Otherwise, you are bound to get creamed in a courtroom.

And that is one of Sun Tzu’s lessons in “The Art of War” in that you have to know you enemy and yourself before fighting and if you are dealing with a larger force, ESPECIALLY if you don’t know their capabilities, you have to surrender.

Try fighting the US Navy.

That puts things into perspective for you.

Now let’s take a look at this from the position of strength.

Let’s say that you are in the same situation, but this time, you actually have the cash to hire an attorney and to take them to court over this.

And after reviewing the purchase agreement, you find that they indeed violated the terms of the deal.

Your attorney says “Oh we can get them on XYZ charge and we can get you entitled to not only to all of your money back, but we can get them to pay me, your attorney, so YOU are fully protected!”

So now with this legal protection, you are at the position of strength to ATTACK and you can get your money back.

The reason that you can do this is because of the following:

A) You have seized control over the fate of their reputation

And as a result of that,

B) You have seized control of their biggest cash flow (kind of like their blood and oxygen), which is the business from the rest of their clients.

If you can control those two things from everyone that you encounter, you can literally be the authority everywhere you go.

This is what is known as leverage and it is the process of using your strengths to get what you want.

I’ll give you an example, our government.

To live in this country, there are laws tha everyone has to follow.

Now, what makes them so effective when enforced?

You might have realized that, but you haven’t REALLY realized that.

Let’s take a look.

People don’t want to go to jail. That’s a fact.

Also, people don’t want to lose the ability to make money, which is essential for survival.

So if someone breaks the law, that person is giving up control of their ability to make money, as a result of unknown conditions surrounding that, and that person is ruining his reputation as a result.

That means he or she can’t build relationships with people, current relationships are ruined, and that person’s ability to get work will drop and doors will close.

And that is exactly from violating the law.

And if he or she hates the law, then the law is the enemy.

But if the person wants to do one thing and the greater force negatively affects that person’s ability to do that thing, then he or she must concede to the greater force and not fight.

And that is truly understanding and implementing “The Art of War” to truly understand what you can and cannot do.

Don’t break the law because you will lose the battle 100% of the time.

And now for a secret trick that most people that you buy from utilize each day, but don’t even tell you up front just to keep RILING up your bills each and every day.

How to Use Deception to Your Advantage

The Art of War Book Review: The Most Unforgettable and Necessary Book Review EVER!

The companies don’t tell you everything that they are charging you.

They sell at really low prices and they get you to keep buying and buying to the point where it becomes addicting and then before you know it, you went over budget!

How many of you did that from time to time?

Comment below if you have. That’ll be an interesting conversation for sure!

This is a classic one. You walk into the grocery store and you initially want to buy a few items on your shopping list.

And then, you see a “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” out of nowhere.

And it sounds so good and you are like “Oh, that sounds nice! Let me try that!”

And after you buy that one, which wasn’t too expensive, you are like “Oh another cheap item! That can’t be too bad! It’s a pizza for $3; I’ll just buy 4 of them because it’s only $12!”

And you keep doing that and doing that and the next thing you know when it is time to check out, you get the bill and you say:

“WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?! I WENT $150 OVER! WHAT IS THIS?!”

It’s the power of deception in business.

You see, the grocery stores use something called the psychological greed trigger to get you to act instantly as a result of offering you a lot of stuff for very little in return.

This induces a sense of salivation to want it now because they give the sense of illusion that they are offering more for the price that they are charging, where in reality, they are using a tactic to make you logically unaware of what you are doing and to keep riling up the bills.

That is deception at its finest.

And that’s why they get people to spend more than they need and more than they anticipated.

It’s kind of like the slot machines if you look at it.

Hook’em with the price!

And now time for a story on how this book almost helped me put a guy in jail!

Me, a Silver Car, and a Red Car

The Art of War Book Review: The Most Unforgettable and Necessary Book Review EVER!

If you’ve read this blog so far, you know that I’ve mentioned story quite a few times.

However, I’m going to share it again for anyone reading this post for the first time and I am going to show you how this book to saved my skin on that one day.

So one day, I was driving home from my university when I just kicked the behind out of a Differential Equations test. I was celebrating so hard that I decided to crack up the radio and listen to Toto’s “Hold the Line” on the way home.

I was so immersed into the music that I didnt realize how far I was from the car in front of me.

So a red light shows up in front and the car in front of me just SMASHES the brakes and I was shocked that he stopped so fast.

As a result, I stopped abruptly as well.

However,  I stopped too late because something unfortunate happened,

We had a car crash.

But not to worry, it was only a fender bender, so it wasn’t a big deal.

Initially, I wanted to resolve the situation with the driver in front of me, but what he did next surprised me SO much that will make you believe that he was a complete dictator.

When I rolled out my window to try to speak with him, he said “You were going way too f****** fast. You could’ve killed someone if they were in the back of your car seat.” And then basically whatever else the guy said, calling me a jerk, a fool, and, whatever else.

Now I just sat there and looked at the guy without talking and just letting him have his space and his air time. However, I wasn’t just silent. I was silent on purpose.

I was actually using the principles in “The Art of War” to play a trick on him to make him feel like he won and has the right to berate me.

I created a scenario in which I looked vulnerable for attack and scolding, but in reality, I wasn’t. And he was completely ignorant to the fact that criticizing me was only going to make it worse for him legally.

So in short, I made him hit an imaginary enemy instead of me.

He then leaves the scene, which you legally can’t do if you’re involved in a car accident, and about 25-30 minutes later, the cop arrives. I explained what happened and he told me that because I hit him, I was legally liable to the car accident.

BUT, after explaining what happened, he said this: “Well, you followed the law and that guy was being a jerk. You know what, I will let you go today. Have a nice day.”

And that was all from playing a trick.

And here is the part where I ALMOST used “The Art of War” to put him in jail.

What I didn’t know at the time of the accident was that I could take a photo of the guy and his license plate right after the accident.

So the officer told me that if I did that, I would have evidence to make that guy liable for the accident since he verbally harassed me and he left the scene.

Hence, if I knew those things and did them, he would’ve gone to jail.

How unbelievable is that?!

And that’s from using the deception tactic in “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu.

  1. Hi Evan, thank you for a very interesting article.

I am always amazed at how supermarkets catch people with BOGOF (buy one get one free) deals. They really know how to uses psychological greed triggers. Why don’t they just sell one item at half price? When I see these deals I don’t buy into them. However, my gf always falls for these “deals” as sees them as a real bargain!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to get ahead in life.

  2. You never fail to deliver awesome content in my opinion.
There is so much wisdom within the words on this page! And “The art of war” looks like a book that shouldn’t be missed.
I specifically like the part about how to deal with enemies.
So, I’ll give it a closer look I think.
    Thanks for sharing!
